10 November 2017, Friday

November 10 at 15.00 in the Hall of Contemporary Ethno Art of the Elabuga State Museum-Reserve within the framework of the project "Historical Memory"  two exhibitions from the collections of the State Museum-Reserve by  V.D. Polenov (Tula region) will be opened.

The exposition "The Gospel cycle" included a series of paintings by one of the best Russian artists of the late XIX - early XX century Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov. This cycle, which appeared after repeated trips to the East, the master himself considered the main matter  of his life.  V.D. Polenov reflected the main, from his point of view, moments of the New Testament, telling on the canvases on the earthly path of Christ.

The names of the paintings correspond to the first line of the Gospel narration from the birth of Christ to the crucifixion: "Dreams", "And returned to Galilee in the power of the spirit", "Getting up early in the morning," "Wisdom was performed." Most of the works are kept in different museums and private collections, so this exhibition is the only opportunity to present the cycle as a single whole. Visitors will be able to see 22 photos of Polenov, having  become sketches for canvases, and 50 quality posters from his works.

The second exhibition - "V.D. Polenov and the artists of his circle "presents the works by  Polenov and his contemporaries.

Being a teacher at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, he taught  his younger colleagues in art new techniques of plein air painting, emphasizing the ability to achieve harmony, beauty of color solutions, purity and sonority of colors. Students are obliged to Vasily Dmitrievich to understand that the artist does not just talent, but broad knowledge and hard work that does not count with time.

In his estate on the bank of the Oka Polenov "built an academy among nature", which opened the doors for all those who want to improve in their work. Polenovsky House led its interesting and diverse life: with trips to sketches, literary and musical evenings, children's games.

Theorganic continuation of Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov's activities was classes at the Moscow artist's house, on which the joint work and communication was important. Not only pupils came to see:  K.
