It is known that at one time Lev Gumilev said: "I am a Russian man, but all my life I defended the Tatars from slander". These words are also stamped on the pedestal of his monument. The works of this scientist made it possible to learn a lot about the history of the Tatars and the Kazan Khanate. He achieved rehabilitation in  mass consciousness of the Turkic peoples, considered to be the embodiment of savagery and ignorance, showing them as carriers of an original culture.

Director of the Institute of the Tatar Encyclopaedia, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Iskander Gilyazov  and  Chairman of the Union of Writers of the Republic of Tatarstan Danil Salikhov emphasized  that Lev Gumilev taught to treat objectively and respectfully the representatives of different peoples.
