6 December 2018, Thursday

On December 7, 2018, after a large-scale reconstruction, the long-awaited opening of the Gallery of Modern Art of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan will take place.

The building was built in 1979 in the aesthetics of neo-brutalism as the Exhibition Hall of the Union of Artists of the TASSR. For this project, the architect G. A. Bakulin in 1981 received the title of laureate of the Gabdulla Tukai Tatarstan  State Award. The author of the sculpture at the entrance is R. P. Kharitonov. The exhibition hall was opened in 1980 with the large-scale Zone Exhibition “The Big Volga”. In 2009, the building was transferred to the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan, in 2017–2018 - modernized.

The Contemporary Art Gallery of the National Museum of Fine Arts (hereinafter referred to as the State Museum of Fine Arts) marks  renovation with three exhibitions: “Russia. Realism. XXI century "and "Andrei Tarkovsky. Space Artist "as part of the Cultural and Exhibition Center of the Russian Museum in Kazan, as well as the exhibition "Igor Vulokh. The evolution of white. To the 80th anniversary of the artist’s birth. ”

The gallery will also run the project "Center for movement in time" (the project in the format of " the added  reality"): Historical reality - with modern means. The center of movement in time is the  newest project, representing modern technologies and art projects, real historical objects and artifacts, which make it possible to “take part” in historical events, “see” and “experience” lost achievements and technologies.

Today, GMA(the Gallery of Modern Art)  is the largest exhibition platform in Kazan specializing in contemporary art. The audience is provided with three floors, six exhibition spaces, a lecture hall, a children's art playground, and multimedia - more than one and a half thousand square meters.
